iPhone App 'Learn That Name' Wins Top Honors At Microsoft Sponsored Event

September 1, 2009

Learn That Name is an iPhone and iPod touch app that was created by a team of developers during Startup Weekend's 54-hour coding marathon.  The app was designed to help Linkedin users memorize people within their network.  It was also designed to run on the iPhone and Palm Pre, which is surprising considering Startup Weekend was sponsored by Microsoft, held on its Redmond campus, and was the only app out of 15 not built on Microsoft's platform. Startup Weekend organizer Clint Nelson probably summed up the feelings of all attendees when he whispered "Awkward" upon announcing the top vote getter. Learn That Name has been submitted to Apple for review and will be priced at $2.99 when it is released. Startup Weekend's Clint Nelsen said they're hoping to have the next event at Amazon.com. Last year's event was held at Google's campus.  Maybe Microsoft should push to have the event held at Apple's campus in hopes that the same awkward moment will occur, just the other way around. Embedded below is the demonstration the team gave for Learn That Name during the event.
