Overview

Splojit is a relatively simple game. It’s a memory based game similar to simon, but instead of only having four quadrants, there is a four by four grid creating 16 spots. Now you have to memorize a sequence with spots having the potential to be in so many more areas. The basic gameplay mechanic is that a sequence plays, and then you have to repeat the sequence. So in this case there is a paint burst, and then you tap the same spot. There is one paint burst followed by another, and you have to tap those two spots in order. The game progresses this way with one more paint burst for each level. Splojit_score

Features

Splojit isn’t too feature rich, but has some nice ones. There are an endless number of levels with each level adding one more plaint splotch, so on level eight there are eight paint spots. Each level’s score is based on how quickly you repeat back the sequence, with a time meter at the bottom of the screen. There are three difficulty levels: easy peasy, kinda hard, and ninja. Also included are relatively bare online high scores with only the top 10 included. You can also tweet your high score, and it’s only an option, not mandatory. Splojit_lose

The Good

The gameplay is simple and addictive. It’s so easy to play over and over with just a tapping mechanic, and the option to replay right away. The game is super challenging, with the best online high score only reaching level 9. It’s great by building upon simon, and implementing a huge grid amping up the challenge. The controls worked perfectly as did the online high scores and twitter integration. The visuals are pleasantly polished with a plain white board that is filled with varying paint colors as the sequence is played. When you play the sequence back the paint explodes from your tap, and when you tap the wrong spot there is a huge multicolored paint explosion. Splojit_highscores

The Bad

The sounds are as basic as can be with no background music. There is only a different tone depending on the location of the paint when it’s played and you repeat. Then a fart noise when you tap the wrong spot, that’s it. The gameplay is quite simplistic, and there isn’t much to the game. You play the same gameplay mechanic over and over, with the best person reaching nine paint splotches to repeat.

The Verdict

Splojit is a quick fun little game. It’s a fresh take on simon, and implemented well. It’s the best memory sequence game in the App Store by providing a four by four grid. You can play quite a few games in a short amount of time, and can be quite addictied. The problem is that it’s the same every time. If you like memory sequence games you will like this, and it’s worth picking up. Overall though, the lack of sounds, and the similar gameplay mechanic leaves this as worth considering.
