The iPhone Is Still Not The Number One Smart Phone

It might come as a surprise to you but despite its top sales and its impressive market penetration the iPhone is still not leading the market when it comes to Smart Phones. ChangeWave Research made a couple of surveys and they came up with some interesting results.

In fact the Blackberry is for now 10% ahead of the iPhones which represents about 30% of the Smart Phones in circulation, well ok, this can still be seen admirable if you take in consideration how recently Apple arrived on the market.

So what's happening pretty much ?

As you can see Palm lost a lot of customers over the last 3 years and is stabilizing now, they were relying on the Pre to bump their market share but it seems like this only too small success just allowed them to stop their terrible fall.

Blackberry on its side is slowly losing its market shares, which can be explained by its traditional high rate of adoption by business users. Switching to another platform is expensive and long, which can lead to businesses sticking with RIM over the iPhone despite its superiority.

As for Apple they're growing steadily now, we could imagine that loosing the AT&T exclusivity would probably allow them to grab a much bigger piece of the pie but as Verizon said, the ball is in Apple's court.
