Illusion Labs Revisits Labyrinth

November 24, 2009

Illusion Labs has been developing iPhone games basically since the beginning of the App Store, but surprisingly, they only have a total of three games to show for it: Labyrinth (which was developed under a different name, but is still by the same people), Touchgrind, and Sway.  The reason for this is that each game they have developed has utilized the iPhone's capabilities in a unique way.  Labyrinth set a new standard for ball-rolling games when it was released way back in August '08, while Touchgrind and Sway utilized the iPhone's touchscreen in previously unimaginable ways.  This time around, however, Illusion Labs intends to take a different route and revisit one of their most successful titles, but that doesn't mean it is any less ambitious. labyrinth2_screen1Labyrinth 2 won't just feature new levels and gameplay elements as many would expect, it will go well beyond that.  Illusion Labs has completely re-designed the UI and graphics engine to give the game a much more realistic feel.  They have also improved the previous game's physics engine to handle all of the new obstacles that they have added to the game. So besides the new goods under the hood, Labyrinth 2 will feature entirely new gameplay elements, including obstacles like magnets, fans, lasers, bumpers, and what have you, awards, the ability to create your own levels and share them with your friends, and four-player multiplayer via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.  Just think of it as Labyrinth on steroids. Illusion Labs hasn't given the game a specific release date, but it will be arriving soon.
