Overview
Samegame Gravitized is a new original entry to the samegame series made by ooPixel. We gave you a sneak peek, and now that it’s in the App Store for $0.99 it’s time for the in-depth review.
The gameplay premise is simple, tap a match of at least three same colored bubbles to remove them. The game includes three modes highlighted by Gravitized mode which allows you to tilt the device to change where the new bubbles fall in from.
Features
Three game modes are included: Gravitized, Classic, and Puzzle. In Gravitized mode, you can tilt your device to change how the new bubbles come in, from the top, left, or right. Classic mode is basic match three, and all bubble fall in from the top. Puzzle mode provides 20 puzzles of increasing difficulty where you try to remove all the bubbles on screen.
AGON online high scores are included for Gravitized and Classic mode. The game gets very difficult very fast so the top score is around 3000 which is around level 4. AGON also provides seven achievements from blasting a certain number of bubbles, to reaching certain levels. Two special bubbles are included. a rainbow which acts as a wildcard, and a black skull which is a bomb to blast a large portion of bubbles.
The Good
Samegame Gravitized is the classic bubble popping match three game we all know. Now you can tilt your idevice to change the direction the new bubbles come in. The game is fun to play in short bursts, and since it saves your exact spot when you leave, you are able to just that.
The game is very nicely done, exemplified by a sheen on the bubbles. Every match has an orange explosion just like a bomb blast. Then when you pop a big mass, or use a bomb the entire screen flashes and shakes from the blast. Then there a dial at the bottom that keeps track of your score, which flips swiftly as you score.
As you’re playing there is a bar at the bottom showing your level progress. Once you reach a new level a new color is introduced amping up the difficulty quickly. If you like a difficult match three this is definitely the game for you.
The puzzle mode is super difficult, and it will feel like a great accomplishment if you complete all of them. The seven awards and online high scores give this game quality replayability.
The Bad
The games are short, and it really doesn’t introduce much we haven’t yet seen on the iPhone. Tilt the device, and pieces fall in different ways seems to become a necessary standard on the iPhone. You play until there are no moves left, which come rather quickly.
Puzzle Mode is another problem because it doesn’t share the gravitized aspect. in each puzzle you need to remove the colored bubbles in order, or you will lose. There’s no chance to tilt around, and line up the final bubbles.
One final problem is that the sounds are lacking. There is no background music. All you have is the pop of the bubbles, and an explosion sound.
The Verdict
Samegame Gravitized is a fun game, but it isn’t very unique. If you’ve played a match three game on the iPhone, then you know the features of this game. The game looks great, but is lacking in the sound department. It’s as casual as can be, and one of the most difficult match three's you can find.
It’s only $0.99, and it’s a solid match three with tilt functionality, and is definitely worth considering depending on how many match threes you already have on your iPhone.
