Apple Might Be Taking WebApps To The Next Level

I'm not fond of WebApps. You may argue that HTML5, or SQLite local storage have yet to unleash their full potential, but I'm simply not sold on what we've seen so far. On the other hand, it seems like Apple, despite the App Store's success, didn't completely give up on WebApps. Thanks to PastryKit, an Apple-developed framework, developers might soon be able to take WebApps to the next level. If released, Pastrykit would allow WebApps to be displayed without the address bar even if they had not been launched from a saved-to-the-home app icon. They could also provide fixed-position toolbars that stay put even when you scroll.  Finally, they could set their own scrolling friction coefficient, making it easier to scroll through long lists. Would all of this make you pass on the App Store? [Daring Fireball via TheiPhoneBlog]
