id Software has always been known for their violent and gory shooters, but they apparently have a softer side which they have decided to show off during the holidays by placing their entire iPhone and iPod touch lineup of games on sale for a limited time. What could possibly be better than blasting Nazis and demons from Hell for cheap during the holidays?
The games included in the promotion are:
Doom Classic ($6.99 -> $2.99): The classic game of Doom ported to the iPhone and iPod touch with customizable controls.
Doom Classic includes 36 levels, the game's original soundtrack and weapons, and local four-player multiplayer via Wi-Fi.
Doom Resurrection ($6.99 -> $1.99): A first-person on-rails shooter set in the Doom universe that features an all-new story that runs parallel to the original's. The game features accelerometer and touch controls, eight campaign levels, four levels of difficulty, challenge mode with 40 challenges, and graphical assets that were originally designed for Doom 3. Check out our
review of v1.0.1 of the game to learn more, but be aware that it doesn't take into account the new challenge mode that was added in v1.1.
Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum ($1.99 -> $.99): The first-person shooter that started it all.
Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum for the iPhone and iPod touch contains all six episodes and 60 levels from the original version of the game along with 21 maps from the Spear of Destiny prequel. You can also download more free, user-created levels via Mobile Safari for infinite replayability. Check out our
review of v1.1 of the game to learn more, but once again be aware that it doesn't take into account the new content that was added in v1.2.
All three games will be on sale for an unspecified amount of time, so pick them up now before it's too late.
