Google Mobile Becomes Location Aware

Location awareness is everywhere those days, all the way to your Google index page.

If you point your mobile browser to google.com (and you get redirected to google.com/m) you’ll now discover a new field underneath the search bar that will let you update your position.

This will then transform, (if your location is precise enough) into the near me now function that lets you check out what’s surrounding you.

Google actually put together a trailer to show it off:

Can you near me now?

***Update

It does work overseas, I just tried it in the middle of nowhere, deep in Switzerland…

  1. Err, that’s a “no” then for the UK…

    • it works everywhere, just use google.com/m
and if it redirects you just press, “go to google.com” at the bottom

      • Don’t think so, it doesn’t work everywhere not in AUS

        • What do you mean by “doesn’t work”, do you see new field?

  2. Sweet! It works perfectly!

  3. It works for Canada, but there is nothing near me. If you go by google earth data, then anywhere outside major centres have a lot of erroneous data!

    Cool to have though…
