This is just a friendly program reminder in case you missed our first post from December 29th, 2009, or in case you simply forgot. Tonight at 10:00 PM ET, CNBC will be airing a special one-hour program titled "Planet of the Apps: A Hand-Held Revolution!" The program will focus on how the launch of the iPhone in June 2007 ignited the mobile revolution with the introduction of apps. It will also take a closer look at the process of designing apps, and even profile some fairly famous, at least in our geeky circles, and not-so-famous app developers, including Heroes' Greg Grunberg. The entire program won't only be about Apple's iPhone, as they intend to take a look at its competition as well, but it should still be a worthy way to spend your Thursday evening anyway. Below is a description of the show taken from CNBC's official "Planet of the Apps" page:
Apps are everywhere. In less than two years, the app craze has taken over. These small applications – or apps – that fit on our mobile phone do everything from helping us accomplish mundane tasks to keeping us entertained while we wait for the bus. Apps are popular and profitable. Studies estimate, the Apple iPhone apps store alone generates about $200 million a month in sales. Innovative and often addictive apps are changing the way we work and live. Welcome to Planet of the Apps: A Handheld Revolution. In this hour we’ll look at how apps have changed our lives, meet some of the creators behind them, and figure out just how big a business they really are. CNBC’s Planet of the Apps: A Hand-held Revolution takes a look at how the industry is changing the way we live.
