It’s time to warm up your credit cards folks.  Despite the fact that you won’t have it in your hands before March 29th (or 60 days after the announcement, according to Steve Jobs), you should be able to put in your iPad order as soon as next week.

According to a reliable source of ours familiar with the matter, Apple will be starting the presale of the iPad as soon as February 25th.

Presale will be US only, and should be limited to the Wi-Fi version for now. If Apple holds to the announced schedule, you should then receive your iPad within approximately 30 days.

I’m however holding off for the 3G one, you?

  1. I’m going for the Wi-Fi version. I don’t travel enough to warrant the 3G version, and if I do, I can use my iPhone. It’s silly for me to pay for 2 data plans, even if the iPad’s doesn’t require a contract.

    • I agree completely. WiFi version for me. It’s gotta be 64GB though… my iPhone has 32GB.

  2. Yea me too. I use 3G alot but I would prefer to use my iPhone. iPad seems like a home friendly version of the iPhone I my opinion.

  3. Why is presale limited to the US? I wanna buy… I wanna buy now! :)

  4. I’m waiting for the 3G version. I have an iPod Touch thus wifi only. I drive a lot.

  5. We are waiting for the 3G version here as well! Aaaarghhhh! Although I wish that it was being released sooner. Not sure how much longer I can wait. Guess I can always find a wifi version to play with while I wait!

  6. no flash no cash

    • No Flash, No Crash.

      FTFY

      • perfect.

      • I, too, will be waiting for 3G. I don’t live in an area that 3G from AT&T sucks (that much – and mostly dropped calls, not data.)

      • Touche!

    • I felt like that at first too (didn’t want it without Flash) until I read more about HTML 5 yesterday and tried out Vimeo on my iPhone. Really the only thing I care about Flash for is video, and the HTML5 video on Vimeo made me a complete believer that I don’t need Flash anymore, people just need to re-encode their videos as Vimeo has done. Honestly I’ve never liked it that a single company has so much control over the Internet Browser (which is why I use Firefox when possible) as Adobe does both with PDF and Flash. It’s definitely time to standardize and move away from what is essentially a required plug-in on every browser out there. Even ignoring all the security problems Flash has had over the past few years, the idea of requiring a 3rd party company to update the plug in for every OS and every browser out there is just getting to be more than Adobe can handle. When you look at the mobile space (the WinMobile and Android Flash implementations limp along and are very buggy for example) it just makes me want to move away from Flash not embrace it further (and Silverlight is no better – it just would shift control from Adobe to Microsoft – can’t see that being swallowed by the various OS’s out there).

  7. For me my iPhone has 3G and that’s enough for me. I’ll get the Wi-Fi iPad because i too think i’ll use it mainly at home, at Starbucks, or other wi-fi providers.

  8. I’m in at $499, I don’t want to give AT&T any more money, if you know what I mean.

  9. You can add a mini 3g to wifi router to any iPad…and then your 3g service is not limited to the iPad.

It does mean ‘another device’ but its well worth it in my opinion….so no waiting for 3g, but I’ll certainly be using 3g…I haven’t decided on the 3g service yet, but I’ll probably go with a myfi from verizon.

  10. Waiting for the 3G – the wifi model doesn’t have GPS…

    • You are wrong… both models have the same GPS chip…

      Take a look here: http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/

      • There is no GPS chip in the 3G version. It does have a compass though. It should also be able to use Location Services to find your location based on nearby wifi base stations (if you are also connected to the internet).

        • I ment Wifi not 3G.

      • Ehm… nope. Compass: Yes, but no GPS in the Wifi version.

        According to Apple’s iPad specs:
“Assisted GPS (Wi-Fi + 3G model)” – which means the model with 3G, not both model lines!
See also the following line of the specs if you think otherwise!

  11. Who says presale is limited to US only?

  12. “Warm up [my] credit card”? For this? I don’t think so.

  13. I’m buying the $499 version at the end of March, selling it for $450 at the end of April and buying the 3G version.

    • I love that idea. I want the 3G version but can’t wait.

  14. I’m waiting for the uncensored App store version… and I’m not holding my breath.

  15. I’m buying the wifi model the day it comes out!! I see no reason to wait for the 3g model, since I have a jailbroken iphone. Simply use Mywii on the iphone to broadcast the wifi signal, and connect the ipad to the hotspot. The connection will be 3g, the exact same. I see no reason to pay for an additional data plan that isn’t needed. Just another reason for you iphone owners to jailbreak…Oh ya, and all firmwares can be jailbroken, including 3.1.3. Just a thought.

  16. Ipad 3G version..but i am waiting for Ipad 2.0..camera, multi-tasking, surely Apple will relent if enough consumers “complain”

  17. Talentless, mindless lemmings. All of you.

  18. Wi-Fi version, of course. If you have a Nokia smartphone, you can install Joiku and share your 3G connection with Wi-Fi to iPad, saving money as the iPad is cheaper and there’s no need for another data plan.

  19. 64 gig. Wi-Fi. It’s exactly what I’ve been waiting for.

  20. I don’t like the idea of paying for 2 data plans. It would be great if they enabled the wifi version to tether via the iPhone to share that data connection.

  21. I am getting the $499 WiFi only version. I have a Verizon BlackBerry Tour and the Verizon MiFi for my Macbook and iPod Touch, so there’s no reason for me to get on AT+T’s clogged network. If this is true, then I will be pre-ordering for sure!

  22. I’ll place my order for the 3G version as soon as I can. I hope ATT will offer some kind of package (we already have ATT U-verse, wireless phone accounts and land line).

  23. Can I preorder online or will i have to go to a apple store to preorder?

  24. I’m holding off for the 3G one too and I’d like to read more reviews about it when it’s finally launched. There’s still good amount of people who believe what Apple does and I’m pretty sure Apple stores will be crowded on the pre-selling. iPad may have received a lot of negative reviews for its other inabilities, but hey, Apple sure does have reasons for that.

  25. Now is the time to jailbreak my iphone and share the connection via wifi.
Too bad, I really dont wanna jailbreak but apple leaves me no choice.

  26. As much as it pains me, I will wait for 3G because it also has WiFi and if I choose not to do the data plan then I still have WiFi. But it doesn’t work the other way around, if you get WiFi and later decide you want data, get ready to do the ol’ sell and swap, not to mention shellin’ out more coin. It’s all about choice and options for me :)

  27. “You can add a mini 3g to wifi router to any iPad…and then your 3g service is not limited to the iPad.”

    True, but expensive.

Can’t beat $15/mo for 250 mb or $30 for unlimited AND NO CONTRACT…

  28. اعتقد أني بنتظر لين ينزل الاصدار مع ٣جي

  29. Wifi for me as well. I have a 3G iPhone for situations with no wifi. Mainly for use around the house because reading the iPhone is killing my eyes.

  30. Rumour has it that Steve Jobs uses the jailbreaken version already ;)

  31. I am an Aussie, who can’t wait for the 3g, 64gig version. This is a belated Xmas/Birthday pressie from my wife, so hurry up APPLE, pull ya finger out Steve!!!

  32. iPad Wifi for me simply because you can pre-order it. You won’t be able to pre-order the 3G version online, you will have to wait in a two day line in at either an Apple Store or an AT&T store to get one. Just like when the iPhone 3G came out, you couldn’t order it online, it was sold only in stores.

  33. Well I will be Going for the WiFi Version as soon as its available.. then ebay-it off when the 3G is available. And yes one could use the wifi version with some type of Tethering to My iPhone or some other link… But most of those looking at that seem method to of Missed the Biggest Announcment on January 27th… “THE UNLIMITED AT&T 3G service for $29″ Thats a Pretty good deal for UNLIMITED Service

  34. I will be pre-ordering the wifi only version when it becomes available. I would love to get the 3g version and would be willing to pay for it in addition to my current cell phone plan and stand in line for it except that there isn’t any 3g GSM coverage where I live and I used to have an iPhone and live in one of the few areas that AT&T has 3g coverage and it still sucked. I can’t understand how apple could come up with such a great device and then blow it by giving it to AT&T after they have repeatedly proven themselves unworthy of apple’s exclusivity. Why Steve? Why have you forsaken us?

  35. WIFI $499 already got my money saved up will be pre ordering it or will get it the day it comes out. Would love the 3g version but can’t wait I will be looking into myfi. from verizon… the Ipad is perfect for my needs , would have loved the camera but i have my mac for that and i am sure it will come out in the 2.0

  36. It is 4:31PM on February 25th!! Still No Pre-Release!!! Way to go AppAdvice!

    • Haha, I guess Steve wasn’t too pleased with us releasing that info and he rescheduled…

      • Guess this prediction – as so many guesses floating around regarding Apple – was wrong.

  37. FAIL!
    lol

  38. Nice job appadvice. Your wrong. Thanks alot for getting me excited
