Apple took advantage of the Academy Awards Ceremony tonight to air its very first iPad commercial, a very smart move knowing their intention to make it mainstream. It’s not their first move of the sort, since as you probably remember, they already had Colbert make some promotion at the Grammys last month.

In short, it’s a 30-second upbeat clip meant to go around its main features, pure Apple goodness. Check it out:

On a further note, Steve Jobs himself is also present at the event.

  1. It was an awesome commercial. It was a bit more informative than other Apple commercials.

  2. It’s on the site. http://www.apple.com/ipad/gallery/ (scroll)

  3. It’s a huge iPod touch. That’s all. No more no less. No flash and no multitasking without jailbreaking make it not a laptop and since you can get an iPod touch for $200 that you can keep nice and safe in your pocket why would u spend $499 on a huge one that will mo doubt break since you can’t keep it in ur pocket, it’s made of glass so you can’t just throw it in a schoolbag with textbooks, so how the he’ll are u supposed to carry this thing around? I wouldn’t use a big laptop case since well it’s not a laptop and if I wanna use flash or possibly open the Internet while I pause my game oops wait the shittipad can’t do that.

    Better link^

  5. Wow! I was taken by surprise! It was a pretty nice ad and hopefully will attract many new customers. :D good job apple

  6. The commercial made me want one so bad. It also made me think I should wait until they add a camera/video to purchase one

    • I agree. It’s simply too expensive to expect me to buy one and then buy another a year later when a camera –which really should have been included to begin with– is added. I want one too, but I’ll wait.

Without trying to sound too condescending… I’m so tired of that lame argument… “it is too big to fit in my pocket… it is just a big iPod Touch.”

First, it is not meant to fit in your pocket.

Second, I’m sure you have watched a bit of TV in your life. Would you rather watch on a 20″ screen or a 50″ one. Thought so.

Screen size matters. It is a huge difference. If it didn’t matter, no one would go to the movies. Everyone would just stay home and watch it on their laptops.

I respect your opinion if the iPad is not for you, but the way you voiced your commentary just shows your ignorance.

  8. It is just a pimped out version of the i pod touch with the ability to get internet with AT&t and a couple of more features. Not worth it for me.

well I don’t really know what else to say except that it IS a big iPod touch, duh, with better CPU and ram. Anyone who owns an iPhone/iPod touch knows how fragile the screens are, how do you expect to keep a huge glass screen safe? If it doesn’t got in your pocket howdm do you take it with you anywhere? Carry it wherever you go? Not very convenient… Put it in yr pocket, nope. Put it in ur schoolbag? Nope, txtbooks will
smash it. Carry a laptop case around for your “laptop” that can’t multitask, and to take a page from you it can’t watch movies from most sites because it has NO FLASH SUPPORT!!!! Stop being an apple fanboy and praising everything they do. I absolutely love my iPhone and would never give it up as long as I can jailbreak it, but the ipad is just terrible, it is nothing new, they simply just made one of their existing portable products bigger and in the process they made it so u cannot take it with I because as I said how the hell do u carry this thing around with u all day?

  10. It doesn’t have flash support indeed but it may be temporary. I think the later iPad versions will sure bring improvements and a lot of new apps. We shall wait and test it before saying it’s good or not. Here is the HD commercial they released at the Oscars: http://www.thehdstandard.com/general-discussion/first-ipad-ad-launched-during-the-oscars/

  11. I don’t think that the no flash support is temporary. Jobs has laid his anti-flash on pretty strong and even went as far as to call them lazy.
