Apple Now Accepting iPad Apps, Be A Part Of The iPad App Store's Grand Opening
March 19, 2010
The iPad's official launch is only about two weeks away, and Apple wants to make sure all of those new iPad owners actually have something to download besides upscaled iPhone apps, so they have started taking iPad app submissions from developers.
Outlined in an email sent out to iPhone app developers today, those who want their apps to be included in the iPad App Store's grand opening must upload their work to iTunes Connect by no later than 5:00 PM PDT, March 27th. This will give Apple's reviewers enough time to sift through all of the entries and provide details about the readiness of the apps, whatever that means.
Apple hasn't revealed when this new iPad App Store will be unveiled, although we can only assume it will be April 3rd, and what kind of form it will take. Will it merely be a category-like tab under the App Store in iTunes, or will it be more obvious and easy to find for new iPad owners?
Another looming question, or more like an issue, is how will these new iPad apps perform? Most developers, besides a select few, haven't actually had any hands-on time with the iPad, so they haven't been allowed to test how their apps will perform on the real device. These simulator-only apps could potentially cause some issues.
Even with tons of questions left to be answered regarding the device and its software, it's still difficult not to get caught up in all of the excitement. Have you started your iPad countdown yet?
