App Store Now Allows Apps To Be Gifted

March 22, 2010

Gifting, a feature once reserved for iTunes songs, albums, TV Shows, and movies, is now available for apps in the App Store. Today Apple updated the iTunes Terms of Service to reflect this recent gift giving addition.  Once you log into your account, read through and accept the new terms, a gifting option will be available for all paid apps. Gifting is just as painless of a process for apps as it is for songs and everything else.  Just find the app you want to gift, click the small drop-down arrow next to the purchase price, and then click "Gift This App."  You will be brought to a new screen that will allow you to personalize your gift and once finished, an email will be sent to your recipient with a link to their now free app. To gift an app you must use the credit card on your account.  Gift cards or any other type of promotional payment is not allowed.  You are also unable to gift in-app purchases, upgrades, or iPod touch OS upgrades.  Gifts are also non-refundable, so make sure your recipient has the necessary OS updates to run your gifted app. Now go out there and start gifting some of your favorite apps.  Your friends will appreciate it!
