Netflix is a free app for the iPad that will be available on launch April 3rd. If you’re a netflix subscriber you can watch instantly anything in Netflix’s online collection directly on your iPad. You can stream TV shows and movies just like you would on your computer.
You can watch as often as you want as it’s part of the Netflix unlimited membership if you have it. You can resume watching where you left off on your computer. You can also browse and manage your quenee from the app.
This is the official app from Netflix that is completely free, more interested in the iPad yet?

i was really thinking about getting one, but i think that may have sealed the deal
Im still not a huge fan, but this does make the ipad a little cooler.
I wonder if it will stream over 3G or WiFi only?
I tether my 3G internet from my iPhone to my Macbook Pro and im able to stream Netflix movies on the road, so i assume you should be able to do it through 3G iPad when available
Jeff- just curious if you would share how you accomplished the tethering of the iPhone with you MacBook Pro and how efficient it is? Thank you, Doug
I believe tethering is not available in the US yet.
hey you have to jailbreak your iphone in the US to do it-
if you have a 3g/3gs and software of 3.1.2 or lower you can just use blackra1n.
Go to blackra1n.com-
if you need step by step info on how it works you can google it or let me know and i can send some pointers.
Why isn’t this spreading around the web like wildfire? i smell an april fools joke!!
Haha that’s a good one. This was posted March 31st, 2010, 9.46 pm
In what time zone? Every groundbraking and unexpected news like this on April 1st (around the world) should be registered as a 1% rumor until it is confirmed a day later.
But it was April 1st, 2010,12:46am Eastern Time. =)
I’m PST
And your source?
Just kidding, really hoping it’s true!
Unfortunate timing if it is true. Even though you’re on pacific time and using “PST” on your page, I still think your thinking is Eastern to fool us all.
I don’t trust anyone today… Unless you’re IRS that is. =)
The iPad is the future.
Damnit was so excited…but this is some April Fools torture isn’t it

why would anybody design an app to look identical to an ugly web page?
That’s great and everything and it’s a great use for the iPad, but I’m extremely disappointed that *everyone* seems to “forget” us silly old users who bought iTouch and iPhones! When the heck do we get something like this!? Yeah, I know, it would be “lame” on a small screen. Let *us* make that decision, okay?
April Fool’s.
Hey – what’s so unreal about streaming video to the iPAD? It has been available for almost 3 years and accessible by any PC on the net….
I hate April 1st. All the best “fake”tech news happens.
Btw Nick T it’s an iPod Touch not an iTouch. Sorry just a pet peeve of mine. Can’t stand it when people call it an iTouch. I do agree though should be on the iPod Touch and iPhone as well if it is true.
I couldn’t agree more about the “iTouch” comment. Drives me nuts!
This makes perfect sense and isn’t much of a stretch. My guess is that this will be a wifi service only. I can’t imagine them opening up 3g bandwidth for this. Perhaps you could stream live wifi or record them so you can watch while outside wifi range?
Ok, AppAdvice, is this an April Fool’s joke or not? Please lay it all out for us. Who’s your source?
If a joke, I don’t like it, as it way too believable. It is in Netflix best interest to release something like this an the iPad is a perfect medium for their service. It’s something they’ll probably release eventually anyway. So if it’s a joke, it falls flat.
If real, well, then this is huge news & congrats for finding out first.
Ok, this IS real. Found out from Ars Technica that the Netflix iPad image is coming directly from Apple’s webserver: http://a1.phobos.apple.com/us/r30/Purple/ab/a4/03/mzl.qqfvbwoa.480×480-75.jpg.
Great find guys! I was planning on canceling my Netflix subscription on Saturday (of all days), but I may keep it after all.
I have a boner. This is the best news ever.
Hope it comes to the itouch and the iPod phone
he he
Atta boy Muhammed. This is great! Ya gotta wonder why it wouldn’t also support iPhone though? Same OS?
No official info to prove this rumor. And naturally, it happens to be April 1st. Not a coincidence. Nice try. MacRumors is in on the game too.
I get Neetflix on my toaster too.
Now if Netflix would only make some decent content available for streaming. I’m a member, but every time I want to watch something instantly, it’s not available.
That had been my thought since Netflix first started the streaming service but than I found out that Netflix and other providers don’t make the call, the studios that own the rights do. You’ll notice that most of the time the movies that are allowed to be streamed on Netflix usually coincide with what’s available on-demand for your local cable television provider, etc. There are set periods that are allowed for a film to be available for theatrical, DVD / similar media, and streaming availability.
AWESOME! Great scoop, and I believe it…who cares about stupoid April Fools Dat anyway? some juveniles?
AWESOME! Great scoop, and I believe it…who cares about stupoid April Fools Day anyway? some juveniles?
If this is an April Fools joke there are going to be alot of people pissed off at you.
Netflix does not say a single word about any future plans to stream to the ipad on their website. Smells like an April Fools joke to me.
* Netflix says only: ‘Let’s see what Saturday brings’
LOS ANGELES, April 1 (Reuters) – Netflix Inc shares rose amid growing sentiment that the online DVD renter, which is increasingly providing its service through various devices like Microsoft Corp’s Xbox and Nintendo’s Wii, will soon expand to Apple Inc’s iPad.
Apple’s new electronic tablet is set to hit stores on Saturday.
Asked if Netflix was planning to reveal an application for the iPad, spokesman Steve Swasey issued the following statement: “April Fool’s Day is today, tomorrow is Good Friday, and let’s see what Saturday brings.”
Its real. You can now follow the link and launch iTunes. Just downloaded it, although I don’t have the machine yet.
Oh geez, just what the world needs…iPad netflix apps so people can bitch and moan about why they’re newest episode of American Idol isn’t streaming continuously while they’re on the bus…during rush hour (added for dramatic effect). APRIL FOOLS!
I highly doubt that Apple would let a company stream videos on the ipad when it is in direct competition with the apple itunes movie store. Thats not like Apple.
who the hell wants to watch a full movie on ipad. must be crazy person. cannot imagine how anyone watch it on ipad?
3G is OK, but for Netflix-quality streaming movies….good luck. The networks can’t handle the iPhone loads, add this to the mix and you’ll have a “movie” that looks more like a slide show.
I gotta install it.. Still waiting for my iPad to arrive
Saw it today. Looks pretty awesome! Streaming is solid, of course it’s over Wifi. Who knows what 3G will be like.
I’ve been the happy owner of an Apple iPad for over a month now and love this device to death. Surfing the web on it is breeze; plus the speed is increased tremendously navigation-wise due to the multi-touch capabilities.
As for watching movies on it: I love it. I curl up in bed and prop my iPad somewhere comfortable and watch movies and streamed shows while in bed and without disturbing my wife(using headphones).
I recommend the Apple iPad to anyone who is a true “techie” (and have the budget to afford one too).
How good the iPad is for reading the e-books? Does the back light make the eyes tired?
This is a great news, I am going to have my Ipad very soon yippe
