Follow All Of Your Social Networks On AOL LifeStream

March 17, 2010

With a variety of social networks available to choose from and friends scattered all over any one of them, it's probably a safe bet that you're a member of more than just one. Thankfully, social aggregators like the newly released AOL Lifestream are available to bring it all together. AOL Lifestream for iPhone is a companion app for the site of the same name that was launched just over a year ago to simplify social network activity. The service works in conjunction with popular AOL service AIM and brings your updates from popular social networks like Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare, and more and all in one convenient app. Lifestream functionality currently is available as a tab within both of the free and paid AIM iPhone apps but here, the service has been spun off for independent use and comes with a few extras.

The app is pretty straightforward to use. Sign in with your AIM profile or use your Facebook login to start up the service. You can select which social networks you would like Lifestream to pull updates from and view them all at once or filter by service. When you need to update your status, you can select individual networks or update all of them simultaneously, eliminating the need to access different services. Lifestream also gives you the option to add a photo or GPS to your status update.

Unlike the AIM iPhone apps, AOL Lifestream offers the ability to perform real time searches using the Discover feature. You can look up popular topics being discussed on the streams or view current trends similar to Twitter's trending topics.

Lifestream helps to address a problem we didn't have just a few months ago but with our online social lives becoming ever increasingly expanded, having one place to manage it all is a big convenience.

Pick up AOL Lifestream now for free on the App Store.
