Rumor: iPhone OS 4.0 To Bring Third-Party Multitasking
March 12, 2010
Appleinsider is reporting today that according to reliable sources of theirs "with a proven track record", Apple has developed a "full-on solution" to third-party app multitasking on the iPhone, which could be unveiled in the next generation of iPhone OS.
Third-party app multitasking has been the main point of most of the attacks against the iPhone since the launch of the App Store. You can already listen to music in the background while surfing the web, which is actually multitasking, but you would have to jailbreak your iPhone to do the same with Pandora for example, which is quite inconvenient.
Even if confirmed, the mystery remains as to how Apple will pull it off interface-wise, especially without infringing on Palm's IP. I'm thinking of three fingers swipes that would let you jump from app to app without going to home screen, just like on MacBook Pro's.
What's your take on this one?
