Yahoo! Search Hits The App Store
March 23, 2010
The triumvirate of search engine apps on the iPhone is now complete. After Google and Microsoft, it's now Yahoo's turn to launch a dedicated iPhone app for its search engine.
Released less than an hour ago, Yahoo! Search definitely looks interesting for simple searches. The interface is pleasant and snappy and it does a very good job at presenting and loading your search results. It will also conveniently remember which links you already visited to help you with your search and display a short description of the sites you're loading. Further on, news flash related to your search will appear in real-time at the top of the screen.
On the bad side; it's ad-sponsored, which I'm not a big fan of and I found the voice search capabilities to be pretty poor, but I guess my accent doesn't really allow me to judge on that anyway. I'm also missing a direct access to features like maps and so on.
In short, it's a very classical search engine native app, with a Yahoo! touch. Its limited features and the ads make it however the less interesting piece of the existing set.
Yahoo! Search is available for free, now in the App Store
