Castle Bash Brings Four-Player 8-Bit Arcade Action To The iPad

April 21, 2010

It seems that touchGrove's goal is to help iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad gamers relive the 80's.  Not only do they have countless old school LED games available for Apple's iDevices, but now they have chosen to take a stab at 8-bit gaming with their new iPad title, Castle Bash. Castle Bash is as 80's as you can get.  It looks and sounds just like those old school table top arcade games, except it is played on a responsive multi-touch iPad screen.  What's not to like? The idea of the game is to defend your castle from the blazing fireball by deflecting it with a paddle that moves around the edge of your castle.  Every time the fireball hits a piece of your wall it will remove that section, and if enough of your wall is removed, the inside will be exposed.  If the fireball hits the inside of any castle, that player is removed from the game.  You must simply be the last one standing to win. Castle Bash features single- and four-player modes.  Single-player will pit you against the enemy AI, while four-player mode allows you to play with up to three other people on the same device, and honestly, that's where all of the fun is had.  The game also features two game types with varying durations: a quick arcade mode where the last person standing wins the game, and a tournament mode where multiple rounds must be played in order to gain enough points to win. If retro gaming is your thing, Castle Bash is a must buy at $2.99, especially if you have some friends willing enough to get beat down.  The retro colors and sounds will suck you in, and the responsive controls will keep you coming back for more.  This is what party games are all about on the iPad.
