Orbital HD Looks To Take Full Advantage of The iPad

April 2, 2010

Orbital is an arcade game where you fire balls into a grid. Each fired ball expands to the first thing it touches, and then it takes a certain number of hits to destroy that ball. Each destroyed ball sends out a shockwave counting as a hit to the the other balls. You try to pop as many as you can in this particle effect filled arcade puzzler. Orbital HD is redesigned in a number of ways, and not just upscaled graphics. All of the game assets are in higher quality starting with updating the rendering engine to OpenGL 2.0 which means the game now uses Pixel Shaders for everything to be more vibrant and intense. The colors are amazing, and the particle effects are overwhelming as they tapped into the power of the iPad. The playfield has more room, and has been made cleaner, and the textures are now super sharp. The music and all sounds are now in 16bit Stereo, 44kHz. Bitforge hasn't had an iPad though they've tried all kinds of self built prototypes. They may do a quick update once they get their hands on the device. The biggest addition is a versus multiplayer mode which tries to replicate the fun of arcade table tops. One player goes, and then another goes with the screen rotating appropriately.
