iPad 3G Hacked To Send Texts

May 2, 2010

Despite the fact that the iPad 3G comes with cellular network connectivity, it can't make calls or send texts; or at least, that's what we thought until now.

And we were wrong apparently. Thanks to the (unreleased yet) iPad jailbreak, Dev-team member Musclenerd just posted on twitter that he managed to circumvent that second limitation and is now able to send true text messages through the iPad's 3G baseband.

He of course had to use a cut T-mobile sim to achieve this since AT&T's one doesn't allow it. Nevertheless, this is a very neat hack. Let's just hope now that someone can build an interface for all this and that voice calling will be the next step.
