iClarified.com has been poking around and discovered this neat trick. For users that have a iPhone 3G, 3GS or 4 but misplaced their original SIM card, there is a solution to activating your device.
By purchasing a PhoneBook SIM card, your iPhone can be activated via iTunes. According to the site:This is more of a tip then a tutorial. Sherif Morano has discovered that iTunes will activate your iPhone if a PhoneBook SIM card is inserted. A PhoneBook SIM card is used to transfer your contacts from one phone to another. They can be purchased from Radioshack, Mobile Phone Shops, or online.Here is the video that they've included to get the job done:
