Make Your AT&T iPhone 4 Data Plan Work On Your iPad 3G

July 10, 2010

You can't argue that having 3G everywhere on your iPad is unbelievably convenient. This ubiquitous access to all the content you want is indeed nothing short of revolutionary. Unfortunately, the convenience comes at a price.

It's not so much the plan's pricing that is an issue. For many people, it's actually the fact of having to pay additionally for iPad data, when they already pay plenty for their iPhone. Well, if you don't worry too much about going behind AT&T's back, and your usage is very punctual, there is a workaround.

Since the new iPhone carries the same kind of sim cards as the iPad, it's actually simple to switch the card from one device to the other. If you tried already you'll notice however that it doesn't work out of the box. Actually, it takes one more step. That is, all you need to do is enter the following credentials in the apn setting view of the settings app on your iPad:

  • APN name: wap.cingular
  • username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
  • password: CINGULAR1
Give it a couple seconds to initialize and you're all set. Of course, you're doing so at your own risk and you'll be violating AT&T's terms of use. We don't carry any responsibility for them taking your iPhone away and banning you and all your descendants from the Internet all together. Enjoy! [via TUAW]
