We nearly exhausted the supply of apps that have gone free yesterday, but today we were able to track down at least a handful apps worthy of a mention, including the entertaining and universally compatible
Movie Challenge, and the relaxing
Sleepmaker Wildlife Pro.
Sleepmaker Wildlife Pro ($1.99 -> Free): Plays enjoyable nature sounds in order to help you fall asleep. Unlike many other apps of this nature, this one features real-life sounds recorded live in the World Heritage Listed Forests in Tasmania, Australia. It also features three levels of wildlife activity, sleep timer, fade, standby, and free additional tracks and upgrades for life.
Sleepmaker Wildlife Pro is available for free until a bug is fixed in the lite / free version, so download it while you can. It has a four-star rating.
Mental Blocks ($1.99 -> Free): A remove 'em style game where the goal is to score as many points as possible by clearing the grid of colored blocks. To remove blocks, simply tap sections of two or more like-colors. You can increase your score by strategically removing blocks in order to gather large groups of them together. The game features unlimited randomly generated levels, bonus items, and online leaderboards.
Mental Blocks is available for free for an undisclosed amount of time. It has a four-star rating.
iLava - Virtual Lava Lamp ($.99 -> Free): A virtual lava lamp that can be interacted with. Tap, pinch, tilt, shake, and do whatever you want to this lamp and watch the blobs react. It features six different colors, sound effects, and a switch to toggle the lamp on and off.
iLava is available for free for the next week. It has a three-and-a-half-star rating.
Phlight ($.99 -> Free): Another iPhone 4 LED flashlight app that features instant on and screen blackout. Unless we discover an LED flashlight app that's out of the ordinary, this will be the last one included in our "AGF" lists, because it's kind of getting redundant, isn't it?
Phlight is available for free through the weekend. It doesn't currently have an average rating.
Universal:
Movie Challenge ($1.99 -> Free): Think you know your movies? This app features over 5,500 original questions that will have you wracking your brain in order to get the highest score. It features an intelligent game engine that avoids repeating questions, three modes of play including multiplayer, 10 included categories with more available via in-app purchase, three difficulty levels, power-ups, mini-games, stat tracking, online leaderboards, and if you can believe, much more.
Movie Challenge is available for free today only (7/18). It has a three-and-a-half-star rating.
iPad only:
SpeakPad ($.99 -> Free): A relatively basic app that allows you to type up a document , or open one, and have it read to you. It also features a built-in browser that can read web pages, although you can't specify which text to read, so it will go on and on. Documents can be saved, shared, tweeted, or emailed. Additional voices and languages are available via in-app purchase.
SpeakPad is available for free for an undisclosed amount of time. It has a three-star rating.
Developers:
If you are a developer who would like to get your app included in our “Apps Gone Free” daily lists, here’s our basic set of rules:
- The app must be free for at least one whole day.
- It must have at least a three-star rating at the time it goes free.
- The app must not have been free numerous times (3+) over the last six months.
To submit an app, simply send a request to
tyler@appadvice.com with the subject “Apps Gone Free.” Please include the name of the app, a link to it in the App Store, when you intend to offer the app for free and anything else you would like to share. We will take it from there.
