Way, way back in March, LucasArts revealed that the sequel to The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, was iPhone bound and would be arriving in the App Store sometime this summer. Well, sometime this summer apparently meant today, as Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge has landed in the App Store. But that’s not the only good news coming out of the house that George built. The company has also chosen not to leave iPad gamers on the sidelines this time around like they did with the first title in the series with an iPad-specific version of the game.
Monkey Island 2 once again allows you to follow the misadventures of the wannabe pirate Guybrush Threepwood. This time around, however, Threepwood is on a journey to find a mysterious treasure and win back Elain’s love.
Both the iPhone and iPad versions include enhanced graphics with a re-imagined contemporary art style, voice overs from the original cast, re-mastered and re-recorded musical score, the ability to transition between special edition and classic modes at anytime, hint system, two different means of control, and object highlighting.
The iPad version features higher resolution graphics, behind the scenes artwork, and original developer commentary in addition to the items listed above.
Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge for iPhone is now available for $7.99. The iPad version is priced a bit higher at $9.99. If you are new to the series, get a sampling of the gameplay and humorous storyline by downloading the free lite version for either iPhone or iPad.
