Laser Sharks: Swim or Die ($0.99) by Daniel Parks is a real time strategy game where you control a pair of laser sharks as you battle against other genetically engineered sea life. The game always has you control two laser sharks while going against two enemies including piranhas, sea turtles, and manta- rays. The game is set up so you drag the path of your sharks, and then they go for a bit, about 3 seconds, and then you enter their next path based on what just occurred.

The sharks fire automatically when the enemy is in their sights, but you can use special abilities including speed boost, u-turn, and drop mines. There are 15 campaign levels, and each one is scored on moves made and damage taken resulting in a scale from one to four coins.

The game is rather simple and straight forward as far as real time strategy games go so it's easier to manage, and understand the path to success. As you progress through the levels you'll face plenty of challenge going against very difficult sea life, and you will need to plan out every step along the way. It's a simplified version of a thinking game, but there is still plenty of thinking to be done.

The game ends rather quickly with only 15 levels, and then there is nothing else in the game. There is no other game mode or online connectivity or really anything for replay. You earn coins for each level, but you can't spend them in anyway which makes them rather pointless.

In the game it's rather difficult to understand when sharks will fire their lasers. Sometimes they seem spot on, but just keep swimming, and never fire while other times they're not online, but fire away. This makes the game rather frustrating as the strategy and thinking is thrown out the window without consistent automatic actions from the units you’re controlling.

Controlling your shark’s movements doesn't always work as planned as sometimes the sharks don't have full movement, meaning you can only turn them in one direction. Sometimes the sharks go far enough off that they're off the screen, and you can't scroll to their directional arrow, and thus can't control their movement. The game has a nice design with the old time map look as a layout, but there are practically no sounds.

The game is far too short, and has too many frustrating elements to be recommended. Laser Sharks: Swim or Die isn't worth picking up despite the name, and premise.
