EA Is Bringing R-Type To The iPhone And iPod Touch "Soon"
July 2, 2010
R-Type, one of the most challenging side-scrolling shoot 'em ups to ever grace an arcade cabinet, is making its way to the iPhone and iPod touch relatively "soon" thanks to EA.
In R-Type, players control a futuristic fighter dubbed the R-9a "Arrowhead" and set off to destroy the evil Byrdo Empire. Since it is a shoot 'em up, the goal is to blast everything that's in your way while picking up various power-ups in order to get an upper hand.
The iPhone version of R-Type will stay true to the original by featuring classic graphics, sounds and content. The game will feature eight unique levels with eight bosses for each. It will also allow you to choose between three different control schemes -- tilt, touch and on-screen D-pad -- and sport multiple difficult modes in case you don't have what it takes.
As always with EA, we weren't given a price point or an exact release date, but the company has stated the title will be arriving in the App Store "soon." Fans of classic arcade games will want to keep an eye out for this one.
