Thunder Game Works’ insanely popular strategy game for iPhone, Trenches, is coming soon to the iPad.  It’s kind of a no-brainer since the iPhone version has been downloaded over 1.7 million times since its launch in December of last year.

Trenches for iPad won’t simply be a port of the iPhone version with blown up graphics, however.  Thunder Game Works just doesn’t roll that way.  Trenches for iPad will feature new units, an expanded fractional battlefield that will allow you to bypass obstacles and flank enemies, a mini-map, your very own field advisor that will give you warnings and tips, and an action feed that will keep you informed on all of the happenings on the battlefield.

It will also feature enhanced graphics, which is a given I suppose, making those adorably violent units even more appealing to look at.

For those of you who haven’t played it, Trenches is a military strategy game designed specifically for touch-screen devices.  In the game you play as the English who are battling the Germans during World War I.  You are required to overwhelm the opposing forces by sending your troops into battle, which is done by selecting a specific unit type and then controlling them via the usual touch and drag.  The game features a campaign mode with three levels of difficulty, and a skirmish mode where you can create custom battles and hone your skills.

Trenches for iPhone is available in the App Store for $1.99.  A free lite version is also available.

The developers have stated that Trenches for iPad will be arriving “soon,” which is developer speak for “we’re working on it.”  And as for the price, well, we’ll leave that up to your imaginations.
