How Much Data Does FaceTime Burn Over 3G
August 2, 2010
Now that we can use FaceTime pretty much at will over 3G thanks to the jailbreak, you're probably left wondering how data-hungry is the feature? Well, 9to5Mac ran some tests and it's not that bad actually. For a 5 minute call with a lot of movement, FaceTime used up about 15MB. That means, 3MB per minute, half to send your video feed, and half to receive the other one. That's 50 KB/s or 66 minutes of FaceTiming for a 200MB data plan.
Not particularly excessive when you think about it. Which leads me to believe that AT&T really shouldn't have that much of a problem officially supporting it in the future. But, will you use it?
