Now that we can use FaceTime pretty much at will over 3G thanks to the jailbreak, you’re probably left wondering how data-hungry is the feature? Well, 9to5Mac ran some tests and it’s not that bad actually. For a 5 minute call with a lot of movement, FaceTime used up about 15MB. That means, 3MB per minute, half to send your video feed, and half to receive the other one. That’s 50 KB/s or 66 minutes of FaceTiming for a 200MB data plan.
Not particularly excessive when you think about it. Which leads me to believe that AT&T really shouldn’t have that much of a problem officially supporting it in the future. But, will you use it?
