FastBoard for iPad Helps You Move Files
August 10, 2010
Moving files between your iPad and Mac just got easier thanks to the FastBoard app for iPad. Priced at $3.99, the app works in conjunction with FastBoard for Mac, which can be downloaded for free. Both were created by feedtailor, inc.
Once the application and app are installed on their respective devices, the real enjoyment of FastBoard begins. Users simply drag and drop files on one device and like magic, they show up on the other. The app requires a Wi-Fi connection. The Mac-based software is only compatible with Mac OSX version 10.5 or later. It will not run on Windows or Linux-based operating systems. Features of FastBoard and FastBoard for Mac:- Simple file transfer and display performed by just dragging & dropping (no cables, no special settings). - Drag & drop URLs as well as iTunes links. - Files transferred to iPad can then be viewed using other applications. - Transfer of multiple files in rapid succession. - Simultaneously transfer files to multiple iPad units. - Permits password and security functionality when connecting and accessing the user’s Desktop. - Print files directly from the iPad by registering FastBoard for Mac via the PDF options in your Mac’s [Print] settings. - Bring scanned PDF’s directly onto the iPad by registering FastBoard for Mac with the compatible application, ScanSnap.File formats compatible with FastBoard:
- Image files (gif, png, jpg, jpeg, tiff) - Video files (m4v, mp4, mov) - Audio files (mp3, wav, aiff, aac) - PDF files - Text files - iWork document files (key, numbers, pages) - Microsoft Office document files (doc, docx, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx) - Web page files (.html, .htm) - URL - iTunes linksWhile the FastBoard app for iPad looks like a lot of fun and does a lot, I have a major concern: Products like Dropbox and SugarSync already offer similar products but without a necessary Mac application installation. And, these options allow access to data across multiple devices. There is no "it must be on a Mac" limit, for example. With FastBoard, that isn't the case. Still, the app looks cool so check it out!
