Rapid Review: Plates! - Order Up!
Plates! ($0.99) by Big Mouse Media sends you into the kitchen to add sauce to various plates in a very busy restaurant. You’re given three conveyor belts of plates that can have salad, hot dogs, steak, or blueberry pancakes. You have four color sauces on the corner of the screen, and you need to add the right color to each plate.
There are combo plates as well the feature steak and salad or hot dog and salad requiring two sauces. You can earn bonus points by saucing the same dish consecutively, and occasionally there isa special plate to give you bonus for every dry dish on screen. Hot dogs come a lot, but there are dynamite dogs as well that are instant game over.
You get five error plates per game, and can earn some lives along the way. You need to be quick with your tapping to sauce the constant flow of plates. You have to tap the appropriate color sauce corner, and then the plate so theres a lot of frantic tapping to be done. The game is high score based, and it has a great connection with the player to have you keep coming back for more.
The plates increase in variety and speed as you go, but you always want chains while dealing with combo plates and dynamite dogs. Though the game has a relatively simplistic mechanic it’s tons of fun each time you play, and just epitomizes iPhone gaming so well. The game could definitely benefit from an extra game mode, but has plenty of enjoyment as is.
Plates! is a great pick up and play game that is a should buy for the minimal $0.99. Order Up.
