GV Mobile + Free This Saturday
September 21, 2010
Here's a nice tip for our readers: According to Sean Kovacs, his GV Mobile + app will be available for free this Saturday in the App Store. The app, which was just accepted by Apple, was only available through Cydia on jailbroken devices prior to this week.
The app, priced at $2.99, brings Google Voice to Apple devices for the first time since the Cupertino, California-based company pulled them in 2009.
Google Voice technology allows users to make telephone calls via the Internet. Available only in the United States, Google Voice is available free to those with a Google account.
When the Google Voice launched in March 2009, GVdialer, GV Mobile and VoiceCentral offered apps for the service in the App Store. However, in July 2009, Apple pulled the apps. This led to a still ongoing FCC investigation, which is looking into Apple's app approval policies.
Today GV Mobile (now with a "+" attached to its title) is once again available in the App Store and this should be viewed as terrific news for consumers.
GV Mobile + looks very cool and is definitely something that I plan on trying very soon. For first-time users (and those that actually bought the jailbroken app), if you wait until Saturday, you can get the app for free.
According to Kovacs, the app will be "FREE for the night" on September 25. Most likely, the app will be free for the entire today, although you'll have to check the App Store on that day to be sure.
