TomTom Update Will Add New Maps, New Navigate-To-Photo Feature, And iPhone 4 Optimizations
September 2, 2010
TomTom's previous update to their mobile navigation app added a bunch of new features, most notably multitasking for iOS 4 devices. But now the company is focusing on the power of the iPhone 4 with their upcoming v1.5 update, while also adding a couple of other worthy features.
TomTom v1.5 will be optimized for iPhone 4, adding high resolution graphics, sharper maps, more responsive menus, and improved positioning even in areas where your GPS signal is limited.
The update will also add a nifty navigate-to-photo feature that is able to navigate you to a location just by selecting a photo from your Camera Roll. It's able to do this by utilizing a photo's geo-tag data.
Last, but certainly not least, the update will add brand new map data. The new data will include one million more miles of roads in the U.S. than competitive maps.
"With over 45 million drivers worldwide relying on TomTom navigation, we have the expertise to deliver iPhone and iPod touch users the smartest and easiest-to-use navigation experience available," said Tom Murray, senior vice president of market development for TomTom Inc. "As we build upon TomTom’s expertise and refine it for the iPhone, we are focused on meeting consumers ’ needs through our continued product innovations and support of Apple’s advancements."TomTom v1.5 will be hitting the App Store "soon" and, as always, will be available for free to all existing users.
