Amazon Mobile App Now Includes Barcode Reading

October 12, 2010
The Amazon Mobile iPhone/iPod touch app was updated today. The 1.2.8 update gives users the ability to scan a product’s barcode to see if Amazon offers the same item and the current price. Imagine walking into a Best Buy store and noticing the iMac you've long wanted to purchase. Before buying the item, you could use the app to see if there is a cheaper price for the item at Amazon.com. All you need to do is select the “Search” option at the bottom of the app, then select “Scan a Barcode.” Within seconds of lining up the item’s barcode with your iPhone’s camera, the app will show you the price of the item you’ve selected at the Amazon.com website. It's that simple!

Sure, the clerk at the store might give you nasty looks, since you’ll need an iMac box to check the prices, but so what? It could save you money. This new feature only works on the iPhone 4 and 3GS running iOS4. The free Amazon Mobile app is available in the App Store.
