Is Apple Eyeing Sony?

October 26, 2010
Apple is sitting on $51 billion in cash and investments. Would they use some of that money and make a bid for Sony? This is the rumor making its way around cyberspace right now. According to the AppleInsider:
The rumors gained steam Tuesday, sending Sony stock up nearly 3 percent at one point, according to Reuters. Sony declined to comment on the rumors, and analysts polled were skeptical of a potential deal, suggesting that if Apple did try to buy Sony, it would be a hostile takeover that would not likely succeed in Japan.
Just think: the maker of the Walkman being taken over by that of the iPod! While this news is just a rumor, it would be fascinating in some respects. If the Cupertino, California-based company did go after Sony, it would give them a way to put a real Apple TV into the marketplace. Google would surely not be pleased with this possibility. Plus, Sony’s PlayStation system would then be part of Apple. And, how about a Sony Ericsson smartphone with iOS installed? The possibilities are endless. With so much money, Apple is surely going to make a play at some large company sooner rather than later. If not Sony, who? What company should Apple attempt to acquire? Leave your thoughts below.
