BMW Integrates The iPad Into Its Automobile Lineup

October 4, 2010
It wasn't very long ago that you'd buy a car and not be able to play your iPod in it without a cassette tape contraption that was annoying and didn't work too well. Today, most cars come with an easy to use iPod jack. Some higher end car models also include a custom place to put Apple's device on your dashboard. With the advent of the iPad, it goes without saying that we are expecting some fancy (and easy to use) integration into our cars for that device too. The first to do so is BMW, who just unveiled their first "official" iPad integration kit. Debuting at the Paris Motor Show, the BMW kit is for backseat passengers that want to enjoy watching movies or television shows on a trip. While the folks at Engadget have been critical of BMW's solution, I'm not so sure. It appears sturdy and users have the ability to pivot the iPad back and forth, which is nice. Although neither a price tag or release date for this "official" integration kit was announced, I am sure that it won't come cheap, especially from BMW. Still, it's nice to know one automobile maker has recognized the importance of the iPad in cars. What do you think? Let us know by using the comments below.
