Kindle App Updated With Two Nice Features

October 6, 2010
One of the most downloaded apps for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad was just updated. The universal Kindle app, by Amazon includes one long overdue feature: the ability to read two columns of text when in horizontal (landscape) mode. This feature has always been available with Apple’s own iBooks app. It’s nice to see Amazon finally adding it to its Kindle app. Please note that this feature only works on the iPad.

In addition, the Kindle app now includes "Book Extras," which features character lists, plot summaries and series information, where applicable. This information comes from Shelfari.com, the editable book encyclopedia. You can even turn on a ‘spoiler’ feature which will give you a few hints of what is coming up in your story. The Book Extras aren’t available for every book in Amazon’s Kindle library. However, if the feature becomes popular, I am sure you’ll see it on more titles.

The Kindle app 2.3 update is now available in the App Store.
