E-VILLE HD ($0.99) E-Ville HD has the 3D cube characters similar to Minigore, but combined with Halloween themed enemies. On the surface it looks like a dual stick shooter very similar to Minigore, but once you start playing you realize it’s something completely different. The controls are actual one stick for movement, and then a button for attack which is a chainsaw.
That means that you have to be pointing at enemies with your movement stick rather than two independent movements of aiming and moving like a traditional dual stick game. Also it’s not a shooter as your primary weapon is a chainsaw meaning you have to be up close and personal to enemies to damage them. Both aspects combine to make you lose health very quickly because you run into enemies to point the chainsaw at them, and you need to be close enough for the chainsaw to work.
This takes away any fun that could be possible with the game that looked to combine a dual stick shooter with a casual endless trying to progress as far as you can. There are boss battles as well which are practically instant death as they damage you a lot faster than you can damage them since you have such close combat. There are only Ocala high scores for the casual endless style which is point based, and online high scores should be standard.
The game no doubt looks great with the 3D modeling of the environment and characters. There is a load of blood squirting as you’re using the chainsaw, and it’s great to see Dracula, Frankenstein, Mummy, Wolfman, and Skeleton sliced in half, or having their heads cut off. It’s really too bad the gameplay is so terrible.
Even for only $0.99 E-Ville HD isn’t worth it, and you can stay away from this Halloween.
