Cookbookie App Brings New Life To Your Cookbooks

November 18, 2010
Last year, Diane made the perfect Thanksgiving dish that scored points with everyone at her holiday celebration. Unfortunately, she forgot which of her cookbooks contained the recipe. Lucky for her, there is now an app that makes finding recipes easier than ever. The Cookbookie app by Robots and Pencils Inc., allows you to search for recipes located in your own cookbooks. The app eliminates the need to search the Internet for recipes, when you have already invested tons of money on recipes in cookbooks sitting on your shelf. As a foodie myself, I have five different cookbooks in my home. Regrettably, I don’t use any of them with regularity. I find it easier to find a recipe online, leaving my books collecting dust. Once I added all five of my cookbooks to the app’s “My Cookbooks” page, it was like they were fresh again. Now to find a recipe, I simply do a search within the Cookbookie app. It offers a list of recipes that match my criteria from my cookbooks. Amazing!

Each listing contains the recipe title, the cookbook it is located in, and its page number. You can also keep track of your favorite recipes and keep notes using the "Recipe Diary." In addition to its recipe finding functionality, the Cookbookie app includes an “Ask a foodie” section. Here, you take a picture of unknown foods and ingredients and the app will use its special network to identify what it is.

You can also use the app to post your favorite recipes to Facebook and Twitter. The app developers claim they have a catalog of 100,000 recipes, from the most popular cookbooks, in their database. While I didn’t have any problems finding my cookbooks, realize that one of yours might be missing from the app's list. The Cookbookie app is available for the iPhone/iPod touch for $4.99 in the App Store.
