Facebook Announces A New Messaging System

November 16, 2010
Facebook has announced a new “modern messaging system” which its creators hope will change how each of us views communication. The new service was announced by Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The system integrates a user's email, chat, SMS and messaging all within one application. According to TechCrunch:
Here are the keys to what a modern messaging system needs according to Zuckerberg:
  • seamless
  • informal
  • immediate
  • personal
  • simple
  • minimal
  • short
To do that, Facebook has created three key things: Seamless messaging, conversation history, and a social inbox. Essentially, they’ve created a way to communicate no matter what format you want to use: email, chat, SMS — they’re all included.
While the service will allow anyone to receive an @facebook.com email address, it isn’t required. The new system will work with any email address.

The new service is expected to be released in a few months.
