“Free” iPads Available In Japan
November 30, 2010
If you have frequent flyer miles and really want an iPad, consider a trip to Japan. In the "Land of the Rising Sun," you can get the Apple tablet for free if you pay for its 3G connection.
According to Engadget, Softbank Mobile has announced a new pricing plan that makes Apple’s 16GB iPad WiFi + 3G model totally free with a two year data agreement in Japan.
Users pay $56/month which covers the price of your 3G connection. The actual device is considered "free."
At this price, users would pay $1344 over two years.
The 2GB/month 3G plan through AT&T in the United States is priced at $25/month. With the average price of the 16GB iPad Wi-Fi +3G at $629, the total cost for two years is roughly the same. Therefore, this "free" deal is like spreading your money over 24 months.
What do you think? Is this a deal you'd take if you lived in Japan? Should AT&T (or another carrier) offer a similar plan? Leave your comments below.
