iOS 4.2 Release Schedule Rumors Roundup

November 7, 2010
Now that Apple released the pre-final version of iOS 4.2 and we've told you everything there is to know about it, you're probably wondering when it's coming out. Today, we're hearing some new rumors about a possible release date. When Apple releases their pre-final GM version, the public release normally follows very closely behind it. That is, a week, maybe two. Of course, we have no way of knowing for sure, but 9to5mac is relaying some interesting information gathered by German iPhone users, from their national operator. Deutsche Telekom is telling its users that "D-Day" will be this November the 9th. That is exactly one week after Apple released the GM version, and is therefore really the most likely release date. However, at the same time, the German iPhone reference site iFun, believes that we won't see anything until at least Friday. They have discovered, on Apple's servers, some new carrier update bundles that are due to hit this Friday, the 12th. These are new carrier settings which could possibly be fine-tuned for our iDevices on iOS 4.2 and would logically be released at the same time. Although that could just as well be completely unrelated. There is yet another group saying that Apple might take its time on this one, and wait another week. Indeed, iOS 4.2's milestone feature is AirPlay, which has not yet been demonstrated in a working state. In the GM version, AirPlay doesn't do video, only audio. Is it because it's not built-in yet? Or, is it because our Apple TV's will need to be updated for this to work? We don't know, but that could delay everything. Lastly, if you consider Motorola is launching its Droid Pro Android phone on Tuesday, it's definitely going to be tempting for Apple to steal the attention away from them. Anyway, when do you think iOS 4.2 will arrive? Place your bets!
