Now You Too Can Look Like A Star Thanks To A New Google App
November 17, 2010
Want to dress like Kate McPhee or Miranda Lambert? Think Ashlee Simpson Wentz’s look is your look too? Now there is an app that lets you buy clothing that matches a celebrity's taste, courtesy of Google.
The new Boutiques app for iPad offers a personal shopping experience for those that want to look like celebrities, stylists, designers and fashion bloggers.
According to Google:
First we partnered with taste-makers of all types. We asked them not just to curate 10-50 great items they loved, but also to teach our site their style and taste. They did this by telling us what colors, patterns, brands and silhouettes they loved and they hated. They took a visual quiz that taught the site to understand their style genre: Classic, Boho, Edgy, etc. Our machine learning algorithms use this information to enable you to shop all of the inventory in the style of that taste-maker, on top of the 50 items they’ve hand-curated.The app includes advanced search filters such as genre, silhouette and patterns. Plus items can be sorted by style, color, pattern, brand or price. At its debut, the Boutique app is exclusively for women, although men’s fashion might be added later. I found the app simple to use, and surprisingly, the prices were pretty reasonable. It will be interesting to see how people respond to the app. After all, when most people think of fashion Google doesn't come to mind. The free Boutiques app is available today in the App Store.
