T-Mobile About To Begin Selling iPhones? Probably Not

November 6, 2010
Rumors have been swirling that T-Mobile might soon be selling its own version of the iPhone. The fourth largest U.S. carrier (behind Verizon, AT&T Wireless and Sprint) is stocking an iPhone/iPod touch charging cable at some of its stores. Since the company does not actually sell Apple’s device, the rumor mill began. But, it wasn't meant to be. T-Mobile itself stated:
"Select T-Mobile stores will soon begin carrying iPod/iPhone charge and Sync cables to support customers who may be using an unlocked iPhone or are traveling from outside the United States and using an iPhone while roaming on our network.  T-Mobile carries the iPhone in Europe, so many people traveling to the U.S. roam on our network with their iPhones.  The iPod/iPhone cable also makes a great companion product for our line of MicroUSB charging solutions.  The cable can be plugged into the USB port of the universal MicroUSB car, wall or two-in-one chargers to provide customers with a charging solution for their iPod when they are on the go."
Therefore, the cable is for unlocked iPhones and T-Mobile's line of MicroUSB charging solutions. According to Engadget:
Our own Richard Lai notes that the European version of the Galaxy Tab uses a Mini SIM, but we're hearing some pretty strong evidence that T-Mobile's will be Micro for whatever reason. That'd be an odd thing to switch up, yes -- but if any major manufacturer could quickly churn out umpteen different versions of a device with moderately different internals, it'd be Samsung. Guess we'll know soon enough.
While T-Mobile might someday sell the iPhone, this is not one of those days. [Photo: Engadget]
