Blogger: App Store Is Becoming A Wasteland Of Illegal Apps

December 7, 2010
Apple loves to boast about the number of apps available in the App Store.  In total, there are over 350,000 (according to most estimates) apps available right now. Of those, approximately 53,000 are e-book apps. These should not be confused with books available within the iBooks app. The two items are completely different. In recognizing this, one enterprising blogger, Alex Brie began to notice strange things occurring in the App Store and how it relates to e-books. Namely, a few developers are putting a huge number of said apps into the App Store on a daily basis. Of these, many contain material copyrighted by someone else. His conclusion? Companies are flooding the App Store with illegal apps and/or ones that are bulk-generated. According to Brie:
Legitimate developers work hard to create original code or presentation and unique and distinct features. Apps approvals used to take half a week, than one week and now get closer to a fortnight. It is my firm belief that more than half of this time is being spent reviewing and approving thousands of bulk-generated apps generated automatically by scripts or low-paid workers. [sic]
His solution is for Apple to begin limiting the number of apps that can be approved on a daily basis for each developer. This sounds like a great solution. His blog is a great find and I would strongly suggest our visitors read his post in its entirety. [Photo: TUAW]
