Desk Pets Reveals TankBot, An iPhone-Controlled Micro-Robotic Toy
January 19, 2011
Desk Pets is in the business of creating entertaining toys and gadgets that are small enough to venture almost anywhere. The company currently only has a couple of products available, but its latest one is sure to grab the attention of almost any iDevice user looking to have a little fun.
TankBot is a recently revealed, but not yet available, micro-robotic toy that is able to be controlled by any iDevice. Each TankBot comes with a dongle that plugs right into the headphone jack of your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. This dongle enables you to control the TankBot simply by tilting your device in any direction.
But the TankBot doesn't only have to be controlled by an iDevice. Its tiny little body also houses IR sensors, which allow you to navigate it with gestures, or you can just let it go off on its own and it will avoid walls and other obstacles in its path.
TankBot is able to scurry around for around 15 minutes before requiring a charge, and features a retractable USB charger that's built right into the body. According to Desk Pets, it will take around 30 minutes to fully charge the TankBot. The toy also features lights on the front that pulse when it is idle.
TankBot will be hitting store shelves sometime in June and will retail for less than $20. It will come in orange, blue, black, and green body colors, each of which will operate on their own frequencies, allowing you to race or battle with other TankBot users in the same room.
I am a sucker for basically any toy that's iPhone-controlled, so I can't wait to get my hands on one, but what do you think? Does the TankBot sound like something you would be willing to spend $20 on?
