FaceMan ($0.99) by Libero Spagnolini is a Photo Booth clone for your iPhone and iPod Touch (4th generation).

While the concept of having an app that is similar to Mac OS X's own Photo Booth app, FaceMan is probably one of the better choices out there.

FaceMan opens up in a screen with four various effects applied on a live preview of the camera viewfinder. There are five pages to swipe through, which means there are 20 total effects. They include: Swirl, X-Ray, Sepia, Stretch, Sketch, Squeeze, Heat, Emboss, ModerArt, LightTunnel, Dent, Bulge, Led, Mirror, Black & White, Toon, AsciiArt, 100Me, NightVision, and BrokenTV.

Most of those effects should sound familiar - they are found in Photo Booth. There are a couple that are new and unique to FaceMan, such as AsciiArt and BrokenTV.

When you find a filter you like, tap on it and it will go into full-screen capture mode. You can switch between the front facing camera or the rear camera (on the iPhone 4, of course). You can even record video with the effect on, though as of version 2.2, audio is not supported, but coming in a future update. Along the bottom is a slider to adjust the strength of the effect. Like the default camera, you can take the picture or start recording via the big button at the bottom.

When the snap is taken, the photo will save and there will be a chime to let you know when it is done processing. The bottom right thumbnail will let you see the image and have some options to share it - Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or email.

To go back to the main filters screen, the little button in the lower left corner will take you there. On that screen, there's a little button in the lower left that resembles two prints - this will take you to the Albums. Here is where you can go through the photos or videos that you have taken with the FaceMan app. You can delete ones you don't want to keep in the app album, and share selected (currently on-screen) photos.

The Settings (Help) section of the app can be accessed via the 'i' button in the bottom right corner of the main filters screen. There are options to toggle a timer (to give you some time to prepare for the shots), Save to Library (on by default), and the Flash effect. You can also send feedback straight to the developer from within the app, which is great.

FaceMan is very well designed and smooth. There is even a nice sand sound effect to go along with the transitions from screen to screen. It's quite a calming sound.

Currently the only drawback is that there is no sound when recording videos with the app, but that should be coming in the next update, which should be very soon.

If you want to a great photo booth app that is greatly designed and smooth, while providing you with endless entertainment and fun, then FaceMan is definitely worth the dollar to check out. Skeptical? There's also a Lite version to try it out before diving in to the full version.
