Readpad Is A Formidable Newcomer To The RSS Reader Market
January 21, 2011
RSS reader apps are almost as old as the iPad itself, and their numbers continue to grow. Because they all do basically the same thing, their success is based on how well they perform these tasks.
The newest on the market, Readpad, is advertised as the “innovative reading app.” Created by geetouch, this app is one of the better ones, even as a v1.0 release.
Like most RSS readers, Readpad syncs with Google Reader. Once signed in with your Google ID, the app begins loading fresh articles. It does so quickly compared to other apps.
Each article is beautifully arranged in both landscape and portrait mode. A simple pull at the bottom of one article moves you to another as if by magic. Dragging an article to the left shows a listing of other articles from the selected feed. A drag to the right shows the entire list of feeds by category. A click to the left of each category shows its contents.
Articles can be shared using Twitter, Facebook, Instapaper, and e-mail, among others.
Speed alone makes Readpad very formidable and certainly worth its price of $4.99. However, it enters a mature market. Some may not be willing to buy yet another RSS reader app. Future enhancements such as the ability to change the app's color schemes or fonts would make it even better, and help differentiate it from others.
Readpad is available in the App Store.
