Why The Verizon iPhone Isn't LTE Right Now

January 11, 2011
The new Verizon iPhone will run on Verizon's CDMA network, not LTE. Why? According to Apple's Tim Cook:
"The first gen LTE chipsets force design changes we wouldn't make. And Verizon customers told us they want the iPhone now. I can't tell you the number of times we've been asked 'when will it work on Verizon."
Because of this, new Verizon iPhone users can expect two things from this decision. First, the existing CDMA network is much slower than Verizon's new LTE network. Second, CDMA has its limits. You will not be able to talk on the iPhone and surf the Web or use data at the same time.
