Comcast Xfinity For iPad Adds Video Streaming
February 2, 2011
After teasing us with it for the last couple of months, Comcast finally flipped the switch on its iPad app and gave it the ability to access live video streaming.
Starting immediately, the updated iPad version of Comcast's Xfinity TV app gives Comcast subscribers access to about 10 live cable channels, including some premium ones like HBO, Starz, Showtime and Cinemax, depending on your plan. It's part of Comcast's TV everywhere offering and should work on any Wi-Fi connection as long as you have an account. Of course, you'll have to deal with some buffering, reportedly about 30 seconds. Yet, reports from around the web are very positive.
No information was provided as to when or whether Comcast will be bringing this functionality to the iPhone version. However, they did point out they're working on adding more channels to the feature, so stay tuned.
Comcast's Xfinity TV app is available for iPhone and iPad on the App Store now, free of charge.
