How Your iPhone Can Survive a 1,000 Foot Fall

March 24, 2011
Want to make sure your iPhone 4 never breaks? Perhaps you should purchase the case that helped protect an iPhone when it fell 1,000 feet to the ground. The iPhone 4 is one strong smart phone. Apparently, one U.S. Air Force controller accidently dropped his iDevice 1,000 feet above the ground. It survived along with its case, according to a report from TUAW. Combat Controller Ron Walker spent March 16 like he normally does: ensuring that his aircraft is in the proper position before sending parachute jumpers into the air. Unfortunately, this time, as Walker’s plane was cruising at 150 MPH and 1,000 feet above the ground, he accidentally dropped his iPhone 4. Assuming his iDevice was lost forever, Walker, once on the ground, told his story of woe to others. Luckily, one of those colleagues remembered putting the Find My iPhone app onto Walker’s iPhone. Wonderfully, they found the phone’s signal and quickly recovered it, case and all. Not only was the iPhone fully operational and without a scratch, but the case it was in was in perfect condition as well. Griffin’s $19.99 Motif for iPhone 4 case survived its ordeal and no doubt helped keep its fellow passenger, the phone itself, alive to fight another day.
